12 Sips and Scenes from Tales of the Cocktail 2011

It’s been said that the sun should be warm over your toes before you have a cocktail—but here in New Orleans, at the site of Tales of the Cocktail, the cocktail shakers never stop making their sing-song sound of rattling ice. The frost of the cold forms on the sides of the shaker. You listen for the snap of the first pour into the chilled glass. It’s all about craft, and everyone here is ready to celebrate.

At the William Grant event over at the WW2 museum the clock stopped in 1945. You find yourself at Jackson Square—in between having your Tarot cards read—there are more cocktails. The Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone is like a circus without animals—the bar moves around the room like a merry-go-round.

At Tales of the Cocktail, there are new products from almost every brand, new technologies to explore, and old drinks to rediscover. Check out some of our favorites sips and scenes in the slideshow »

If you haven’t yet made your reservations for next year, it’s not too late. My advice is to start drinking heavily right now…You’ll need to get your body in shape and this isn’t a 10K race, it’s century marathon, a history lesson in every glass.

How Top Cannabis Influencers Are Transforming the World of Cannabis Cuisine

Top cannabis influencers are having a real impact on the future direction of cannabis cuisine. Here are some of them.

The Cocktail Whisperer: Warren Bobrow

One of the most visible cannabis influencers from the world of wine and spirits, Warren Bobrow, is a high-profile mixologist who most people simply know as “The Cocktail Whisperer” (www.cocktailwhisperer.com). His primary goal is to transform the world of mixology by infusing (literally) elements of cannabis cuisine. At the first-ever Cannabis Drinks Expo in San Francisco in July 2019, Warren Bobrow was one of the high-profile presenters at the event, showing audience members how he goes about creating some of his most famous cannabis cocktail creations. The importance of this cannot be understated, especially with the growing potential for “cannabis consumption lounges” to become as normal as your neighborhood wine bar. Imagine the buzz that could be created on social media, as mixologists around the nation follow the lead of Warren Bobrow and begin to create cannabis-infused cocktails of their own.

Five Questions with Morris Beegle, President of WAFBA (We Are For Better Alternatives)

Morris Beegle and I share more than names, (Morris is my middle name) — we are both a part of a much larger world of cannabis. In Morris’ case, he is a leading cannabis/hemp advocate and entrepreneur. As co-founder and president of the WAFBA (We Are For Better Alternatives) family of brands, including the NoCo Hemp Expo, Silver Mountain Hemp Guitars, Tree Free Hemp, The Hawaii Hemp Conference, and more, he stays quite busy engaging audiences in N.A., Europe, UK, Nepal and beyond, presenting at a dozen or more hemp conferences each year.

Flowers For Your Father’s Day: The Top Of The House

Casa Humboldt Blueberry Muffin Cultivar

Casa Humboldt Blueberry Muffin Cultivar WARREN BOBROW: IPHONE X

I’ve been traveling all over the West Coast recently, save for Washington State, so my list of the top of the house is far from definitive. My apologies for not including Washington State. I haven’t been in some time. Nor to Colorado, although that journey is coming up. Perhaps I’ll have the opportunity to describe their terroir as well as the ones that I’ve selected. Because of the event, Hall of Flowers, I have been entrusted with the information pertaining to the best flowers of the moment for your dear old dad. This list may be heavy on California. Just how it worked out in this regard.  Your dad has been over-worked and under paid. He has endured yet another circle around the sun with barely anything to show for his top of the house business acumen. It’s time to step up to the plate for him and do something for dad that set your apart from the rest. A list of cannabis flowers along with a couple pre-rolls that I just have to shout about. They are all that good.

Thirty Or Fewer Hours In San Francisco

How About That View?

How About That View? WARREN BOBROW: IPHONE X

There are dozens of tourist hotels in San Francisco that fail to offer the true experience of being in this magnificent city by the bay. They just seem to suck the life out of travel by being determined to sap the character out of a neighborhood, or in a broader scope make the time away just like home. That’s no way to travel! In my opinion, traveling is meant to give the guest a view into a place that is missing by staying at a big name hotel. You cannot do this by watching television. You must experience it first hand.

Valentine’s Day Cocktails For Your Sweet Tooth

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the historically perpetual image of a sweet drink in every glass is as flawed as the original recipes that they emanate from. It’s not necessary to make every Valentine’s Day themed cocktail sweet! This should be a head’s up to the theory that Valentine’s Day always a day to overwhelm your sweet tooth!

Valentine’s Day Cocktails

There are several ways to entice the drinker into wanting to take their palate to a higher place with Valentine’s Day Cocktails. First of all, the glassware should be exciting. A new coupe’ glass, or an elegant Champagne flute, or if your drink centers around the masculine in image, perhaps an extra heavy Old-Fashioned glass to cradle some extra old rum in relaxation? And there is nothing wrong with upping the game with exotic bitters as a flourish, just before serving. I love the varieties of bitters on the market today. They make my job, very easy.
