Warren Bobrow is the creator of the popular blog cocktailwhisperer.com and the author of Apothecary Cocktails, Whiskey Cocktails and Bitters & Shrub Syrup Cocktails. Warren has taught classes on spirits and cocktails all over the world, including an advanced class on rum at the Moscow Bar Show. He has forthcoming research being published in the History of Food and Drink of New Jersey by Wiley Publishing. He has written a book called Cannabis Cocktails, Mocktails and Tonics, featuring a collection of 75 recipes of cannabis influenced cocktails and drinks. The book will help you learn the history of cannabis as a social drug and its growing acceptance to becoming a medicinal. It will also help you create tonics, syrups, shrubs, bitters, compound butter and exotic infused oil to use in any drink. Known in many bar-tending circles simply as the “Cocktail Whisperer,” Warren Bobrow has literally written the book on how to create new types of cannabis cocktails – everything from coffee and tea-based beverages to cooling lemonades and sparkling herbal infusions. In fact, his new book “Cannabis Cocktails, Mocktails and Tonics” illustrates more than 75 drinks that you can make with infused cannabis. As a result, thanks to the creativity of celebrated mixologists like Bobrow, bartenders have a new way to surprise and delight their patrons: the cannabis-infused cocktail.

At the upcoming 2019 Cannabis Drinks Expo in San Francisco, Bobrow will be demonstrating to audience members how to create their own cannabis-infused cocktails, focusing on one exotic creation inspired by Vietnamese street vendors. This iced cannabis drink features THC-infused condensed milk with sugarcane juice and coconut water ice. For lazy afternoons and late nights socializing with friends at the bar, this Asian-inspired cocktail might just be the perfect buzz worthy libation to serve.

As Bobrow will point out during his presentation at the Cannabis Drinks Expo, combining craft spirits and top-shelf cannabis into tasty little cocktails requires a little knowledge of what he refers to as “cannabis alchemy.” In other words, you simply can’t make a cannabis-based cocktail the same way you would a traditional mixed drink. First, you need to infuse the cannabis into the craft spirit of your choosing.

Cannabis Drinks Expo announces speakers!!

Hosted by Beverage Trade Network, the Cannabis Drinks Expo will take place in San Francisco on 25 July 2019 and will be the first event of its kind.

The exhibition and conference will “give worldwide drinks industry, and North America in particular, the chance to come together and look at ways it can start addressing what has been described as the biggest ever threat to its future”. The headline speaker for the inaugural event will be Bruce Linton, chairman and CEO of Canopy Growth Corporation – Canada’s largest producer of marijuana. Linton will speak about the “future perspectives” of the industry in North America.

Other speakers at the event include mixologist and journalist Warren Bobrow; Omar Figueroa, founder of the Law Offices of Omar Figueroa and cannabis law expert; and Alex Howe, co-Founder and COO of Rebel Coast Winery.

Warren Bobrow is a trained chef, mixologist, and Cocktail Whisperer, and he’s here to talk about his journey to becoming a Cannabis Alchemist. Did you know that in the 1800’s alcohol was a way to preserve cannabis? Warren talks with your hosts about medicinal and healing properties of cannabis, why you might choose to infuse cannabis into alcohol instead of food, which strains go with which alcohols, and the process of decarbing the cannabis so it has an effect when turned into a cocktail. They also touch on what’s legal (and not). Warren is a 5-time published author and was a Speaker at SXSW 2018 Conference and Festival. He has written articles for Forbes.com, Saveur magazine, Vodka magazine, Chilled, Prohbtd, and many other national and global periodicals. He was nominated for a Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award in 2013, was a Ministry of Rum Judge in 2010 and a Rum XP judge in 2017, and was in the Saveur Magazine “100” in 2010.

Editor’s Note: I first came across the MagicalButter (MB2e) machine at a party I attended several years ago. There was a novice cook turning out professional results that only a trained chef could perform, at least from a culinary perspective. Of course, the final results were infused with certain botanicals, which at that time were no more than whispers under hushed tones. The MagicalButter machine, standing stoic on the counter, whirred away nearly silently. And, that light show! What a marvelous experience. How delightful to deliciously melt away the afternoon while admiring the swirling lights, so lovely! And the end results? Always perfect.

A rather fat hand rolled-cone stuffed with the California Bud Company strain named Cookies was just passed my way with a knowing smile. I knew at that very moment, encapsulated in that slowly burning cherry at the tip, was more than just mere enlightenment. Inside this perfectly crafted cone contained their namesake product, the most wonderful cannabis, hand-tended and sunshine grown. It was, quite simply; “Cultivated Happiness.” There was deep love and his company’s cannabis grower’s passion spilling out of the spiraling smoke. This experience was way more than just another perfect Cali-type moment in time. Buckets of bountiful California sunshine came spilling out of each hit of the joint and the timeless Beatles’ song, Blue Jay Way reverberated throughout my sun-drenched memory of the day. A curiously sweet aroma of freshly crushed California coastal grown herbs: rosemary, thyme and sage, enveloped our heads as we gazed out over that endless horizon, purple and red and yellow in color. Sometimes the sky looks like it is even on fire, it’s that kind of place. Los Angeles’ sprawl spilled out over hundreds of square miles under this well-traveled road.
